Installing the developer tools

Before you can begin programming with the Meridian Enterprise API, you must install the Meridian Enterprise developer tools included with the Meridian Enterprise Developer Edition. The tools are not included with any other edition of Meridian Enterprise or BlueCielo TeamWork.

Note    We highly recommend performing all development, debugging, and testing with computers outside the production environment. This includes using a test server so that production is not impacted by errant programs.

Before you begin

Microsoft Visual Basic and the latest Service Pack must be installed on the computer prior to installing the developer tools in the Meridian Enterprise Developer Edition.

To install the Meridian Enterprise developer tools, follow these steps:

1. Run the Meridian Enterprise Setup program from the distribution CD or the Control Panel applet Add/Remove Programs, if Meridian Enterprise is already installed.
2. Choose the Server or Customized installation option if Meridian Enterprise is not already installed. Choose the Modify option if Meridian Enterprise is already installed.
3. If Meridian Enterprise is not already installed, follow the Setup program instructions until the Select Components page is displayed. For more information on installing the Meridian Enterprise client components, see BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise Administrator’s Guide. If Meridian Enterprise is already installed, the Select Components page is displayed immediately.
4. Select the Developer option, which also selects the Sample Extensions and Developer components.
5. Complete the Setup wizard. The selected components are installed.

In addition to any other components you may have selected, the Setup program will install the following:

• Meridian Enterprise type libraries
• Meridian Enterprise Interface Extension designer for Visual Basic
• Visual Basic project templates
• Visual Basic form templates
• Sample Visual Basic projects

Setup is now complete and the computer is ready to be used for Meridian Enterprise API development.
